If you’re looking to shop for quality beauty products at budget-friendly prices, ColourPop is the brand. ColourPop is a beauty and cosmetics brand that has become popular and loved by beauty enthusiasts worldwide.

The brand also boasts awards from prestigious beauty editors like Allure, Glamour, and OK!, and is a two-time Temptalia award winner. As the name suggests, ColourPop products are made to make you shine. Even the pink theme of their website indicates that.

The brand also prides itself on being customer-friendly and, in their words, “100% cruelty-free,” as they don’t test their products on animals.

Now, let’s analyze ColourPop’s website and uncover the secrets behind their shine in the beauty industry.

Comprehensive Features Analysis

Here, we’ll discuss the various features of the ColourPop website and rate them.

Product Descriptions and Collections: 8/10

From makeup items to skincare products and variations of similar products, ColourPop offers a variety of products. We’ll use the following metrics to analyze the description and organization of these products.

  1. Clarity and Descriptiveness

While ColourPop’s product descriptions are generally clear and concise, the use of branded terms like ‘Lippie Stix’ might confuse new customers, suggesting a need for clearer explanations or links to product pages. They emphasize the benefits of the product. Let’s use the Cool BFF Lippie Pencil description in the image below as an example.

They highlight the product’s benefits in the first sentence—preventing feathering. In the same sentence, they tell customers that the lip pencil is long-wearing and highly pigmented for a defined shape.

Emphasizing benefits is a tactic that can convince visitors to purchase the products. The product page also has a collapsible section explaining the product and how to use it. So, customers get manufacturer advice on how to use the product for best results.

However, using unique terms like “Lippie Stix” instead of “lipstick” could confuse first-time buyers. It would have helped if they linked the Lippie Stix to the product page.

To assure customers of the product’s safety, ColourPop includes an ingredient hyperlink on the product page, which displays a detailed list of ingredients.

The collapsible sections of the product page and the ingredients hyperlink help to maintain the website’s clean layout and information organization.

  1. SEO vs. Readability

ColourPop ranks high in SERPs only when customers search for the product using branded keywords. See the image below.

When users search for more generic keywords like lip pencil, it’ll be challenging to find ColourPop because they don’t appear on the first page of SERPs.

ColourPop’s focus on branded keywords suggests a strong brand identity, but this approach limits their visibility in more general searches, indicating room for improvement in their SEO strategy. However, the product descriptions are clear and easy for visitors to understand to help them make informed purchasing decisions.

  1. Creativity and Branding

ColourPop has cool names for its products. An example is the Cool BFF Lippie Pencil we analyzed. Check the image below for more creative product names.

There are unique inspirations behind their naming. For example, the Sing PH Lip Balm was inspired by a Pokemon character that sings a lullaby to make its enemy sleep. Anyone who likes this character may feel compelled to buy the product.

We also applaud the vibrant colors they use for the product images. They grab attention and create a fun shopping experience.

  1. Organization of Collections

Their product organization is straightforward. See how they categorized their products in the image below.

They have a category for new products so that customers don’t miss them, best-selling products to guide customers unsure of what to buy, value sets, and last call to help customers save costs.

The other categories are based on where you use the product. This makes shopping easier. But that’s not all. When you hover over a category, there’s a drop-down menu that contains all the collections within that category.

But if you choose to see everything in the category, there’s an option for that as well. Check the image above.

The organization of collections contributes to a positive user experience because it eliminates confusion and makes shopping faster.

  1. Visuals

ColourPop uses more graphics for its product images than traditional photographs. The colorful background of the products effectively creates an attractive and fun brand image. See the pink background of the Adore You Lip and Cheek Balm.

Even though it looks attractive, using more models with different skin tones for their product images will help customers envision how the product will appear on them. Another idea is to add videos of real people using the product on the product page. It will help customers connect better with the brand.

One aspect of the visuals we commend is how they display products in different colors.  They include a color palette of the available colors on the page. See the color palette of the Sweet on Me Colour Stix below.

When you select any of the colors, the image of the Colour Stix changes to that color. And guess what? The name changes as well. That’s fun.

User Experience 8/10

The ColourPop website generally gives a positive user experience. The product images are clear, the colors are attractive, and the product organization is top-notch. The website also has search functionality to help users search items easily. Below is the search result for “mascara.”

The product page shows all the color palettes available for a product, and the image changes to match the customer’s choice.

The checkout process is relatively easy. They offer different payment options unless you’re paying for express. Then, you only have PayPal and ShopPay as the accepted payment methods.

To complete the checkout, you have to navigate through three pages from your cart. But the steps are easy and intuitive, so it’s a breeze.

Customer Service and FAQ Page 6/10

The ColourPop website has a dedicated FAQ page that is accessible from the website’s footer.

The FAQs are organized into different categories and have search functionality, as shown in the image below.

The search function makes finding answers to queries easy. They also include their email address on the FAQ page for customers to reach them.

The other way to contact them is through the form on the Contact Us page.

They mention that they take around 3-5 days to reply due to the high volume of inquiries they receive. A simple solution is to integrate an efficient AI chatbot to provide prompt and accurate answers to customer queries. This will improve customers’ shopping experiences.

Return and Shipping Policies 7/10

Unlike many e-commerce websites, ColourPop centralizes its return and shipping policies within the FAQ page. This approach keeps product pages clean and focused, though making this information more visible could further enhance the shopping experience.

This may be because they don’t offer returns and refunds; all sales are final. The shipping policy is also accessible through the FAQ page.

Like most concepts on the website, the shipping policy is organized and straightforward. But they must work on making it more visible.

Promotions and Discounts 8/10

The Last Call category comprises products with up to 80% discount. They have banner messages advertising free delivery for orders above a certain amount.

The store also has an interactive promo pop-up that engages customers and improves their experience. They also incorporate urgency in the promos to encourage visitors to take action quickly. See the image below.

The brand offers a bundle called “It’s a Mystery” that combines different products and sells them cheaper than their retail price. Check out this mystery palette bundle that’s worth over $42 but listed for $15.

These promo packages are beneficial to both the brand and customers. It’s a clever way for ColourPop to introduce customers to new products, and the customer gets to save money. Win-win!

Special Features and Innovations 8/10

We love the product pages’ review section. Let’s show you what we love about it.

Can you see the filters in the image above? You can customize the type of reviews you want to see. For example, you can filter reviews to see only those with the reviewer’s image attached, and you can further refine your search by selecting criteria such as skin type, age range, skin tone, and rating. The filters help you see relevant reviews to make informed decisions.

Strengths Showcase

The ColourPop brand has several standout features. The following are aspects we think they excel in:

  1. Affordability

ColourPop is renowned for its affordability. This makes the products accessible to a wide range of customers. The discounts and mystery packages also contribute to its affordability. But even with the affordable pricing, they provide quality products. Numerous reviews attest to the quality of the products.

  1. Organized Layout

Another feature that caught our attention is the clean layout of the website. The organization of the collections, the product page, and even the FAQ page is a factor that makes browsing the website easy and intuitive.

  1. Aesthetics

The ColourPop website is a visual delight! The vibrant colors and general aesthetics of the website are attractive and youthful. Coupled with the affordability, ColourPop is a one-stop shop for cosmetic products for the younger generation.

  1. Flexible Payment Options

Even with the affordability, ColourPop collaborates with Klarna to allow installment payments for their products. With Klarna, customers can divide the bill into four interest-free payments. This will encourage them to buy more, knowing the payment is spread over a period.

Growth Opportunities for ColourPop

ColourPop can become an unmatched force in the beauty/cosmetic industry if it optimizes the following aspects of its online store:

  1. SEO

ColourPop needs to find ways to rank higher in SERPs. They can diversify their keyword usage and adopt more relevant and unbranded keywords in their product description. Adding a blog page is not a bad idea, either. They can create content that revolves around their products while integrating relevant keywords for SEO.

  1. Contact Options

Another area that requires attention is the contact option. Customers should be spoiled for choice on how to reach the brand, especially as email replies take time.

  1. Customer Service

If customers have to wait a while to get replies to questions that influence their buying decisions, they might take their business elsewhere. ColourPop must find ways to provide prompt responses. These days, brands use chatbots. But before we give details about that, let’s give our final rating.
